  1. I loved your post about this interesting man. And it is wonderful to know that this great 'Human Interest' story was picked up and that so very many people got to tell their tales about him and now, this Memorial Service, where more people can gather and tell their story's, too. I wonder if he knew how many lives he touched?

I would love to give you my email, Jon, but I don't know how to do that here and than possibly get some weird emails, you know? Ray has my email address, by the way and if you would like to get it from him, that's fine with me. I too am a great admirer of Ray's writing. I really do think he has a great gift and am soooo glad he is back at THR!

It is lovely to meet you and thank you for the comment about Schwab's and The Garden of Allah...
Schwab's was a great great place. Not only the Soda Fountain, but the little sit down-at-tables room, PLUS, they sold fabulous things throughout the store, besides being a terrific pharmacy, too...There was a funny little parking lot--the entryway was right from Sunset and went down this steep incline to a flatter place where one could park. If memory serves, there was a shoe shine stand on the Street Level of the parking lot...many a fine shoe was shined there, I know.
Schwab's had a very particular smell...this combination of Soda Fountain and Perfume...GREAT! I loved it. I have had many a perscription filled there, back in the day...
It was also a great meeting place for a lot of different groups of people. There were the Breakfast People...one of whom was Werner Klemperer...many other guys too...They were all stricken when it closed it's doors...

Well, I've rattled on enough, using up a lot of space here... Thanks for that, Jon.
